Healthy Snacks
Snack food is available in our cafeteria and vending machines. Much of the food is high in sugar and fat (with the exeption of some choices in the vending machine). What are your thoughts on making ALL snacks sold in school HEALTHY?

Not all food choices should be healthy in school for a few reasons. First off, parents can already trak the history of what a student eats/orders in the lunch room through the student ID code and card so the parent should be responsible and awear of a student's diet. Secondly, many energy drinks have electrolights (sp?) that other healthier options lack. After doing strenuous physical activity or battling alerergies or the latest cold symptoms, electrolights will wake you right up and keep you foccused in class.
I think some of the food choices are wayyyyyyy too greasy and/or sugary. I think our school needs a wider variety of fruits and vegetables. The vending machine has the word "healthy" all over it, yet there are a variety of chips in it, and nothing that is good for you. I think we should put more organic foods in the vending machine, or at least semi-healthy, such as granola bars.
well im in 5th grade and well I have seen so many overweight or obease kids and look at myself I am so much smaller than they are.So my opinion you shouldnt be selling alot of sugar or alot of junk food yeah maybe once a week you could have junk food day were you good have junk food for one whole hour. That to me would have a high expectation on your school. So I hope you take my advice and you wont have anymore obease or overweight children.
Here is MY opinon..... I think we should keep atleast some un healthy snacks. But, that does not mean we can't add some more healthiness in the mix. Like, two junk food vendors, and twoo healthy food vendors. That way it is evened out and students have a choice. Plus, that's what we want to teach kids and they get older, right? We want to teach them that as they get older, they have more and more liberty to choose there choices. And its a perfect time to teach that in middle school. bye for now.........

Why aren't students "all up on" this blog?

The snacks I see everyone buying from the new vending machine are chips - high fat, high salt - and expensive.
